Profile
The Ente Autonomo Fiera Internazionale di Milano operates as a private law Foundation, represented by public and private stakeholders on its Board of Governors, which is the Foundation’s governing body, and represents the key institutions -- mainly the Region of Lombardy, the Milan Provincial Government and the City of Milan -- operating in the territory that hosts the exhibition complex.
Fondazione Fiera Milano, engaging in nonprofit functions of general interest, fosters, promotes and increases the organization of trade exhibitions in Italy and abroad through the work of Gruppo Fiera Milano, which Fondazione achieves through two core areas of activity carried out by its main affiliated companies:
- Fiera Milano Spa, which manages the exhibition spaces and controls a group of companies that organizes exhibitions and conferences and related services;
- Sviluppo Sistema Fiera spa, which specializes in the planning, redevelopment and upgrading of infrastructures and community facilities, in the exhibition as well as other sectors.
Fondazione Fiera Milano was established in February 2000, with the specific task of overseeing the redevelopment of Milan’s exhibition system to provide Gruppo Fiera Milano and the country with a leading-edge exhibition complex that would be on a par with large-scale exhibition facilities around the world. Fondazione has continued to pursue this objective since its establishment 10 years ago, partially achieving it with the construction of the new Fieramilano exhibition complex in Rho and the makeover of the city’s historical exhibition complex.
Fondazione Fiera Milano, chaired by Professor Gianpiero Carlo Cantoni, currently owns the new exhibition complex as well as the hotels near the Porta Sud entrance and the office buildings under completion at Porta Est. In the historical exhibition grounds located in Milan’s Portello area, which continues to be a venue for exhibitions and conferences, Fondazione Fiera Milano is expanding the existing conference center managed by Fiera Milano Congressi. Due to open in spring 2011, it will be Europe’s largest conference center with internationally cutting-edge technologies.
Fondazione Fiera Milan’s existing facilities and services designed to support both the Group and the companies that use the exhibition system, mainly comprise:
- a Research Service, offering studies and publications;
- the Academy of Trade Fair Management;
- a Historical Archive.
As a Foundation that is also engaged in functions of general interest, it carries out activities and projects to promote and implement initiatives for economic, social, cultural and scientific development, and to redevelop the local territory by adopting the principle of subsidiarity, in cooperation with public and private institutes and organizations.
Ever since 2006, Fondazione Fiera Milano played a prominent role in the Expo 2015 Promoting Committee, jointly with regional and local players, leading to Milan’s winning of the bid.
