29 May

The new exhibition complex hosts the Giro d’Italia (Tour of Italy). The racers cycle down the sail-covered walkway, cross the eastern gate and then around the perimeter of the new exhibition complex. The event is broadcast live on RaiTre.

2 April

The new Fiera complex opens to the public.
The sail hosts an historical exhibition entitled Di Fiera in Fiera (From Fair to Fair) by the architect Antonio Citterio, underneath giant “puppets” by Viennese artist Klaus Pobitzer . A 40-kilo cake is cut in the afternoon. The evening celebrations are suspended following the news of the death of Pope John Paul II.

31 March
Inauguration of the new exhibition complex.
The ceremony is introduced by Chairman and CEO Luigi Roth who reads a message from the President of the Italian Republic, Carlo Azeglio Ciampi and ends with the blessing by the Archbishop of Milan, Cardinal Dionigi Tettamanzi. Also present are Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, Infrastructure and Transport Minister Pietro Lunardi, Lombardy Regional Government President Roberto Formigoni, Milan Provincial Government President Filippo Penati, Mayor of Milan Gabriele Albertini, Mayor of Pero Augustangela Fioroni and Mayor of Rho Paola Pessina.

Gabriele Albertini,
Mayor of Milan, together with city representatives, reach the new complex on the first subway train, inaugurating the 1,300 meter extension of the tunnel connecting the new exhibition complex to the city transport system.

29 March

Inauguration of the first stretch of roads to the new exhibition complex. Infrastructure and Transport Minister Pietro Lunardi, accompanied by leading regional authorities, cuts the ribbon to the roads linking the new exhibition complex to the A4 Milan-Turin and A9 Milan-Laghi (Lakes) highways and to the west bypass.

29 September

Luigi Roth and Claudio Artusi receive the Epic award (European Property Italian Conference) in Rome at the most well-known and popular Italian conference for the real estate sector.

3 November - 18 November

The Encyclopedia of the transformation, a 4-volume  published by “I libri Scheiwiller” and written by the FFM Research Service in conjunction with universities and research centers, is presented at Rho-Pero. Speakers include Guido Martinotti, Lanfranco Senn, Aldo Bonomi and Giancarlo Moretti.

19 December

First Christmas at the new exhibition complex, under the sail-covered “walkway” at the Service Center, held by Monsignor Erminio De Scalzi, auxiliary bishop and abbot of St. Ambrose. Unveiling of the industrial sculptures donated by Enel while a Christmas concert is performed in the evening by a chamber choir and brass quintet from the “Giuseppe Verdi” Symphonic Orchestra of Milan for the local community.
