The Project

Sviluppo Sistema Fiera was enlisted by the Expo 2015 Committee to draw up the masterplan for the Expo which was included in Milan’s bid dossier, defining the spaces, functions, access routes and size of the exposition district based on its envisaged use during the event.
The land that will host the Expo 2015 buildings, in the vicinity of fieramilano, occupies a surface area of more than 200 hectares, with 1,100,000 sq.m earmarked for exhibition facilities and 1,000,000 for services and supporting functions.
In addition to the main site, other parts of the city territory will be involved and organized to host a number of side events. The “Via di terra” and “Via d’acqua” routes will connect the Expo area to central Milan by crossing the city’s historical landmarks, parks and redeveloped areas.
The project meets all the requirements for eco-sustainability, in terms of the choice of materials and systems, and its use once the Expo is over. After the event, the site and its green areas will become a new city park catering to all the typically city functions. The project also involves refurbishing and reusing some iconic buildings that can be converted into public structures, and meld with the newly-constructed urban district of residential buildings, stores and offices.
