Ten years on, one can say that FFM was responsible for a far vaster and virtuous process, by means of which
- Milan and Lombardy were provided with one of the largest and finest exhibition complexes in the world, the construction of which was entirely self-funded; the complex was given the appropriate infrastructures, thus making it easy to reach by subway, train, car, or airplane; complementary strategic functions were added – car parks, green spaces, hotels, offices;
- the sale of part of the existing exhibition grounds was made contingent on an urban redevelopment project and the area was earmarked to host a new congress center of excellence – the largest in Europe.
- the architectural and functional projects that were designed and completed became a harmonious part of their urban surroundings, in order to blend seamlessly into the territory and to upgrade it and also to create an aesthetically pleasant area for the wider public.
