Italy’s largest and most “intelligent” car park

Milan Fair’s New Complex will have 10,000 car parks surrounded by green spaces that will be built under a project financing scheme with innovative criteria.
The project, which includes 7,000 parking spaces at ground level and 3,000 in two multi-level buildings, is leading-edge in its field, not only in terms of how the flows of goods and people are organized, but also because of the technological innovations that have been adopted. For example: signage with changing messages to give visitors real-time information on the best access and exit routes; the telepass entry and exit gates; the security service with 24-hour remote control.
The winning project was selected on 1 August 2003, after an international call for tenders. It is the brainchild of Mario Bellini working in concert with the Codelfa, Grassetto Lavori, Marcora Costruzioni, and Apcoa Parking Italia group of companies.
Work on the car parks will begin in November 2003. The work will be completed in two parts. The first – comprising 2,000 parking spaces – in February 2005. The second in July, on schedule for the opening of exhibition activities.
