miart 2015: with the acquisitions made through the “Gianpiero Cantoni” Fund, Fondazione Fiera Milano once again shows its support of the world of art

Milan, April 12, 2015 – The 2015 edition of miart – the International Modern and Contemporary Art Fair – provided the occasion for Fondazione Fiera Milano to use the Fund created in 2012 by Gianpiero Cantoni (Fondazione Chairman at the time) that bears his name, to acquire some impressive works of art selected by an international jury composed of Benito Benedini, Chairman and CEO, Fondazione Fiera Milano; Adam Budak, Head Curator, Czech National Gallery, Prague; Allegra Pesenti, Head Curator, Menil Drawing Institute, Houston; Andrea Viliani, Director MADRE, Donna Regina Contemporary Art Museum, Naples.

Thus, Fondazione Fiera Milano pays tangible tribute to its commitment to the world of art. And confirms its confidence in this choice, with the 2015 edition of Miart, by increasing the resources available to the Fund. The works will be kept and displayed at the Fondazione headquarters in the Palazzina degli Orafi in Largo Domodossola, and, along with those acquired at previous editions of the show will enrich and enhance its artistic patrimony.

The following works were acquired through the “Giampiero Cantoni” fund:

The fund elevates the commitment that Fondazione Fiera Milano, consistent with its own purposes and with the principle of subsidiarity, has demonstrated in recent years with regard to the world of art and Italian and Lombardy culture.

The decision to acquire works of art at miart - the International Modern and Contemporary Art Fair, a brand that is the property of the Fiera Milano SpA Group, was also made with the aim of contributing to the commercial success of the fair and supporting its promotion.

"This year – emphasizes Benito Benedini, Chairman and CEO of Fondazione Fiera Milano – we decided to focus on works of art on paper created by female artists – from very different generations and geographic origins – adding considerably to the consistency of the purchase and enriching the “Giampiero Cantoni” Fund with works of unquestionable expressive value. Making the final selection was no easy task: the 2015 edition of miart lived up to expectations; the quality of the galleries and their works, this year, was even greater than in the past, and this certainly made the work of the international jury more challenging and thorough. We are thrilled to have been able to confirm for ourselves, the enormous potential of this fair, which has been able to re-establish Milan in its role as industry leader in Italy, allowing it to compete with the major European fairs”.
