Eight groups selected for the redevelopment of the Milan Fair City Complex

Eight groups of companies – out of nine applicants – were selected for the redevelopment of the Milan Fair City Complex: one consortium withdrew its application The selection process, completed two months before the deadline, was made official today by the Board of Directors of Sviluppo Sistema Fiera, an engineering and contracting company that specializes in major projects and that was established to oversee the transformation of Milan’s entire exhibition system.
The resolution, approved on the same day by the General Board of Fondazione Fiera Milano, formalizes the work performed by the Tender Committee - comprising Luigi Roth, Claudio Artusi, Rodrigo Rodriquez, Marcello Botta, Maurizio Filotto, Giorgio Montingelli and assisted by Lazard & Co. The Tender Committee began to assess and select the groups on 30 June, the deadline for the submission of the applications for qualification.
The tender procedure will begin on 30 September 2003 and the winning project will be awarded by 31 July 2004.
The consortia that have been singled out are:

The selected companies have already completed other urban redevelopment projects that have played a role in changing the look of major cities in Europe and worldwide. “We expect to see aesthetically appealing and bold solutions that will have an attention-grabbing effect at international level in terms of the emblematic nature of the project, livability of the area, architectural and environmental quality – commented Luigi Roth, Chairman and CEO of Sviluppo Sistema Fiera and Fondazione Fiera Milano.”
From 30 September 2003, the applicants invited to the tender will be provided with the technical documents and contracts needed to prepare their bids, which shall be submitted, to Sviluppo Sistema Fiera within six months.
The eight selected consortia represent a total of 40 groups comprising financial institutions, developers, promoters, construction companies, global service and project management companies as well as design practices and a series of high-caliber consultants representing several countries (Italy, Great Britain, Holland, United States, Japan, and France).
This marks the technical phase true and proper of an all-new approach in urban redevelopment projects in Italy.
