Our commitment to the community

The ability of a community to promote equality and social integration is an essential feature for the development of a territory.

Linked to its territory by a deep relationship of reciprocity, Fondazione Fiera Milano is willing to increasingly contribute to the well-being of its surrounding community with actions and projects that foster inclusion and reduce inequalities.

And social innovation will be one of the guiding principles of our way of doing things. Fondazione Fiera Milano supports high-impact initiatives by directly acting as director in their implementation for the benefit of the community, but also collaborates with institutions and agencies through a well-established venture philanthropy model.

The global social emergencies of recent years have further urged the foundation to go ahead along this vocational approach.

In the future, Fondazione Fiera Milano will continue to contribute to the well-being of its community by offering tools to face the social crisis, with a special focus on the weakest population groups, investing in social innovation, consolidating and developing ‘alliance’ models with the main stakeholders of the territory.

New fair trade market in Milan

A new fair trade market has been opened in Viale Luigi Bodio 16, in Milan, to support people with financial worries. Conceived by Fondazione Progetto Arca, the initiative has been developed in collaboration by the Regional Government of Lombardy, the Municipality of Milan, JTI Italia, Osama, and Fondazione Fiera Milano.

It is a functional space where 150 families with economic problems living in the Municipio 9 neighbourhood can get free food based on their needs.

The focus is on food support, which satisfies a primary need, but it also becomes an ongoing support tool by the Arca Project or social services. The aim is not only to ‘shop’, but to protect the dignity of every person from loneliness and social exclusion, which are often inevitable consequences of poverty.

Vaccine hubs

The commitment for the community during the pandemic also included support to the vaccination campaign. In the last months of 2020, in collaboration with the Politecnico University of Milan and EY, the Foundation ran a trial in some areas of the Fiera hospital to determine the number of vaccines needed and start a mass immunization campaign model that was subsequently also adopted in the other large hubs opened throughout Lombardy.

Including Palazzo delle Scintille, an ex-trade exhibition pavilion, today the property of the insurance company Generali. The hub was created thanks to a collaboration between Fondazione Fiera Milano and Assicurazioni Generali, with the contribution and participation of important private partners, such as Cisco and Moncler. In less than two years, from April 2021 to February 2023, over 2 million vaccine doses were inoculated.
